Types of treatment

How do we determine what types of treatment are available?:

As each student is required to fulfil a series of pre-clinical competency before they are allowed to start treating patients,

not all treatment are provided by the student yet as i've not been taught everything yet.

This is to ensure that the student is capable of carrying out that particular treatment and is competent enough to start treating patients.

However, if the condition is not severe( ie, do not require emergency restorations/fillings/extractions/surgery etc) and the patient is willing to wait till the student is ready,

They may still inform me and i will contact them once i am ready to take on that particular case.

Suitable candidates are perhaps those who wish to make a new denture to replace their old dentures, patients who do not have any active oral pathology which may jeopardise their health.

However, if the case requires urgent treatment, please approach a private practitioner as the health of the patient is of much higher importance, although private treatment is much more costly than student treatment.

Treatment currently available:

I am able to take on cases regarding gum problems ( ie periodontal cases), which involve scaling and polishing etc.

Treatment available soon:

If everything goes on smoothly, i should most probably be able to start on basic restorations (ie, tooth coloured fillings, amalgam fillings etc) soon.

As for root canal treatment, extractions and dentures, these will be provided shortly. Most probably with dentures commencing earlier than the former two.

Treatment which are still unavailable currently:

Crowns, bridges ( fixed prosthodontics) will most probably be available in year four when we're competent.

I seek your understanding as it is crucial that we complete our preclinical requirements adn pass our competencies before we start providing treatment to the patients so that the work we deliver are not substandard and that we possess the knowledge and prior experience.
