What do we do during the screening of new patients?
We will look around using a mouth mirror to assess the general health of the oral cavity and take note of any possible indications of disease that requires intervention.
If the patient is healthy, then we may not take up the case as there is no need for any intervention and the patient is deem very capable of maintaining a high level of oral hygiene.
We will also use a small probe to check if there are any deep pockets to check for gum problems. Usually, 1-3 mm is considered normal. However, if the probing depth reaches 4 to 5 mm or more, we need to treat the patient for gum problems.
